5 Quick Energizers When Your Battery Starts Running on Low
Everyone can get a bit drained of energy from time-to-time, myself included. Here are 5 quick energizers I use regularly to bring my energy back up to HIGH.
1. Stand up and move. Don Sheehan taught me in the early 80`s that you have 45% more energy standing than sitting. Stand when making phone calls, stand up at meetings (even small ones you attend…position yourself near the wall so it is unobtrusive) If you are worried the boss may think poorly of you at a large meeting for standing, stand and move closer to the front and later tell the boss, `I just did not want to miss any thing!`
2. Do something a lot more fun. Drop the boring project that is putting you to sleep and spend 10 minutes on planning your next holiday or sorting your family pictures on your computer. It is NOT wasting time, it is doing something you need to do anyway and if it gets you feeling energized, a worthwhile investment of your time.
3. Change your scenery. If I am being unproductive in my home office I might go to the pool to work, the local kopi tiam (coffee shop) or even to Brewerkz, my ‘office’ in town. (free WiFi Broadband and $3 pints of FINE brew. My wife insists my writing is better there than when I am at home.)
4. The 3 W`s. Walk, Wash your face and Workout. While the face wash is the only `quick` one in the group, all 3 work to wake me up. A quick walk really helps raise energy, taking 5 minutes or more. The workout can take 20 to 90 minutes but for the next 2 hours it is almost impossible to sleep. If I have to work late, I will try to get a late workout in and I can usually work through the night if necessary.
5. Meditate for 10 – 20 minutes. Be it prayerful, just stress relieving or for relaxation, a short meditation often calms me down and surprisingly energizes me and helps me focus.
Energizers work differently for different people. Some of these may not work for you but I am confident 2 or 3 could really give you the boost you need to finish your next big project.
